ACEN Commitments and Action Statement towards a Just Transition to a Circular Economy in Africa - WCEF+Climate

Action Statement:   “Participants encouraged the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN), a practitioner focussed non-profit organisation, to continue to build on its achievements of the last five years, towards a vision of accelerating the transition to an inclusive circular economy in Africa by supporting circular economy practitioners, entrepreneurs and small / medium-sized businesses through case study promotion, skills education and knowledge sharing across the African continent" [to be published as the official post-conference public statement] 

ACEN at WCEF+Climate

The African Circular Economy Network and Footprints Africa have been supporting the Netherlands government and Sitra to introduce circular economy case studies from Africa at the World Circular Economy Forum + Climate. The African case studies showcased at WCEF+Climate are:

  • Eco Brixs in Uganda with Andy Bownds, Founder & Chief Executive Officer
  • The Compost Kitchen in South Africa with Himkaar Singh, Chief Executive Officer
  • Mr Green Africa in Kenya with Keiran Smith, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder

These three case studies are included in the Footprints Africa report.

The two sessions where you can hear from these entrepreneurs are:

  1. “Circular Economy: Crucial in Achieving the SDGs?” on Thursday 15th April at 18:00 – 19:00 CET, Channel 1: this session will discuss why a circular economy is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals during the Decade of Action.
  2. “CirculariTV – Circular Entrepreneurs” on Friday 16th April at 11:00 – 11:15 CET, Channel e: this session connects entrepreneurs from Ghana, Uganda and the Netherlands to discuss their application of circular solutions in business models.

In addition, a series of Commitments and an Action Statement by ACEN towards a circular economy, alongside other organisations involved in WCEF+Climate, will be presented at the end of conference and posted on the ACEN website.
